michelle obama speaking tonight. ann romney spoke last week and seem to have a clear mission to win over women and help humanize her husband. does michelle obama have a mission that's clear cut, do you think? >> reporter: it's different. it's very different. what ann romney had to do was fill in some of the blanks for mitt romney and soften some of those edges that people have seen and make him more likable. everyone knows president obama at this point. michelle obama, the first lady, i don't know that she'll spend so much time on that. she's going to harp on the middle class and talk a lot about the middle class. that's the theme the democrats tell us they will talk about more than any other here. she's also tell some personal stories about his resolve and his firmness in office and talk about his strength as a leader. we're told she will not mention mitt romney. i don't expect it to been overtly political speech. maybe not as much to do as ann romney had to do but i think she's wildly popular. michelle obama more p

this is where i was when michelle obama and mayor castro spoke last night. it's a very good sight lines to the podium right there over my shoulder in that direction. there are people down there doing walkthroughs for the events of the day. it's an intimate arena and very vertical. most of the seats are somewhat close to the stage. they are great acoustics in here, that speech last night, both of them had a lot of power and a lot of electricity. the room was really alive when this happens. as you look down on pt floor, you'll see it's a relatively small floor. in fact, there are only seven statement delegations on floor of the convention, illinois and delaware and north carolina, the host state, of course, and key swing state, the other states on the floor with the beth seats are virginia, colorado, nevada, iowa, key important battleground states, states like new york very blue are way up in the rafters where you can't even see. they have a great view anyway every manner of jumbotron and video screen here. while the campaign is trying to downplay the signific

. >> how about michelle obama? a lot of people were raving about what she had to say. the mayor from san antonio was pretty impressive as well >> the first thing you should know is that the order of the speeches was very important and worked very well. in tampa we saw chris christie give the keynote speech after ann romney speech. last night we saw the castro's speech before michele obama and it seemed to work much better. is a crude calculation of popularity but michele obama speech garnered 28,000 twitter hits per minute which doubled mitt romney acceptance speech which only got to 14,000 per minute. people were very excited and commenting on her awesome upper arms, her hair and her eyelashes. people are calling for a debate with ann romney. the wife gets to take over. this has been enormous for the people here at the convention. >> what is up for this evening? >> bill clinton is speaking tonight and people are very excited if for no other reason than that the obama in administration has not seen his speech. if anything interesting happens tonight it will probably be

like michelle obama tonight. maybe barack obama, maybe bill clinton, tomorrow, i just didn't have the energy. the energy is behind getting obama out. and there is not a lot of energy of getting mitt romney in that. is the problem. and mitt romney raising record numbers of money. but think that is because they want obama out. >> when you look at economic numbers they are grim. you look at the economy are you better off now than you were four years ago? it's a stunning number. it is. >> democrats all over the map on that question. october, 2011 president obama said people are not betterer off than they were four years ago. joe biden said there are different answers on it. they haven't had a answer on it and it's kind of surprising it's gotten the week off to a bit of a stumble. >> how are they going to sell the economy for the american people? >> go after mitt romney attack him. he doesn't have a plan goitsing to get worse under him. i think obama is going to time the george w. bush and we see republicans trying to
